In recent years, the concept has also been applied to organizations and companies through research such as “Positive Organizational Behavior” or “Positive Leadership”. Positive thinking makes life easier in many areas and is also a solid basis for more success in your job. Various studies show that optimists are more determined, more productive and less prone to burnout.

Pay attention to your thoughts because they become words.

Watch your words, for they become actions.

Pay attention to your actions because they become habits.

Watch your habits, for they become your character.

Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

It’s often the little things that can spoil your mood in the morning. Traffic jams, bus delays or a spilled coffee are annoying, but no reason to soak up negativity before starting work. If you arrive at work annoyed, a wrong word from a colleague or a difficult customer are often enough to set you in the wrong mood for the whole day. Use such situations in the future to practice positive thinking.

You don’t have to be an optimist to be able to think positively. But if you actively shape your own life, set goals and also allow dreams, then doors will always be open to you even in the most difficult situations.

Here are several tips how to think positively and stay realistic:

  1. Stop comparing yourself

People are constantly comparing themselves to other people. They compare their strength and attractiveness, their waist size and intelligence, their jobs and salaries. Even men compare themselves to women and vice versa. Our social system is even based on comparisons in essential areas. It is only human that we seek our place in society, strive for a social social status and, of course, find our own worth in it at the same time, but it always becomes problematic when this comparison becomes the yardstick for our self-worth or our self-esteem.

Change your point of view! Focus on yourself and enjoy what you are, can, have. Focus on what YOU want, not others!

  1. Smile more often

A smile ensures a better mood and a positive view of the circumstances after a short time. Even if there is no reason to laugh. Behind this is a physical reaction that is triggered by the facial muscles. The brain then releases happiness hormones such as serotonin and dopamine. In addition, smiling has an effect on those around you: You appear more open, more positive – and you get back sympathy and trust.

  1. Focus on your strengths

Even today, as adults, we usually set goals in mind that we choose regardless of our natural talents. If we are offered a job that promises a higher salary but is not in our competence, we are still convinced that we can defuse our weaknesses with enough effort.

Just make sure that the weaknesses don’t hinder you in your work. Spend most of your effort structuring the work so that your strengths are used as much as possible.

  1. Avoid toxic people

Those who recognize the typical traits of a toxic person find it easier to beware of them and their toxic effects. It is only important that you do not characterize everyone who behaves in a socially unfriendly manner as a toxic person – maybe the person in question is just going through a difficult time or has been particularly angry about something.

If, for whatever reason, you cannot avoid this toxic person, try not to fall into their traps. Ignore them. Do not let their interruptions, actions, or comments provoke you.

  1. Take responsibility

Positive thinking means taking responsibility – for life and your actions. Quite a few people take refuge in the role of victim because it is more convenient, making others or the circumstances a reason for their failure. By taking responsibility, you regain control. You pick up the steering wheel – and make the most of everything.

This not only gives you a positive feeling when you can resume your work in the morning without stress and chaos. Even in the evening, when you turn off the lights and make your way home, you will feel better because everything is done. Now you can relax and switch off and focus positive thoughts on your family or hobbies.
